Day wit da boyz

After a nice breakfast of crepes prepared by Talie, the boys and I jumped on the train and went downtown while Talie, Julia and our friend Karla spent the day doing girlie stuff. While walking along the wharf on the way to Te Papa, we were surprised to see a music video being filmed. I have no who the band was...the chorus was "blah blah blah jelly roll..blah blah". Is that familiar to anyone?

Yesterday was the start of the Maori New Years (Matariki) celebrations and it was Whanua (family) day at the museum so there were plenty of great activities. E and N got their faces stamped with a moko (tattoo). I think they looked awesome (picture below). We played some Maori games, including some cool rhythm games. We listened to a kapa haka performance. The performers were all part of the same family. The patriarch told us that nine of the eleven children were there and some of the grandchildren too. It was really neat because Ethan knew most of the songs from kindy and school. Very cool!

We arrived home at 5:45 and I was supposed to meet Dave at 6pm downtown. I quickly changed and jumped back on the train. I arrived at the pub at 6:40...in time to have a few beers before the All Blacks took to the field. As always I was impressed with the Haka. The Irish played a good test but the All Blacks won in the end.

The pub is a hangout for rugby players so needless to say I felt a little small next to all the behemoths. The female rugby team showed up in 80s outfits. It was a scary sight because 80s fashion (neon, headbands, leg warmers) should have stayed in the 80s and also because some of them are also behemoths.

Good times!
