EuroTrip

Today we went on a tour of Europe...all right here in Wellington. While Talie impressed customers with her wit, warmth and whimsy while hiring out videos, the chit'lins and I went by train downtown. Autumn is here in Wellington so the weather is a wee bit chilly and woefully wet so even the little walk from the train station to the Te Papa Museum would have been wearing. Instead we stopped part way there at Shed 11 on the wharf. There was an art exhibition by students from the Learning Connexion. There were a few pretty neat paintings there...and it was dry. Ethan seemed to get the most out of that stop...he commented on a few of the paintings we saw. He particularly liked ones with obvious texture.

Our next stop was Eurofest 2006. There were display tables for the majority of countries from Europe where they show off National dishes, cultural icons, promoted tourism, etc. Even better though were the performances. We got to see some great singing and dancing. I got a free European Union shirt and Julia and Ethan decorated some eeeggs.

Following Eurofest, we made our way to Te Papa to see Glór na mBan (pronounced ‘glōr nah maun’ ) which means the ‘sound of women’. They are an all girls celtic band. Unfortunately, the kids were a bit hungry by then so we only stayed for half the performance. Luckily the girls are from Wellington so I'll likely get another chance to see them. They were excellent performers both vocally and instrumentally.

Working backwards in the fourth dimension, on Friday we hosted a poker party. It was great fun. Plenty of people showed up...we ate, we drank, we were merry. The kids went down well (only Ethan and Noah since Julia was at a sleepover). Everyone played poker for a bit and then the girls broke off and started dancing with Dance dance revolution on the PS2. I lost : ( but only about 4 bucks. An excellent night...the morning after...not so good.
