Merry Christmas!

It’s Christmas Eve day and with the tree up and gifts under the tree it is finally starting to feel like Christmas. The kids played in the pool today while Talie went to finish our last bit o’ shopping. Yesterday, for three hours, during one of the biggest shopping days of the year, the debit system (Eftpos) went down. Apparently the system affected 80% of debit transactions. Yikes!

Santa is coming tonight…well at least I assume so….the kids have been pretty good this year. We get to see him first so we’ll be sure to give him lots of cookies and milk to give him the energy to make it all the way to Canada. We’ll listen for the sound of giant Kiwi feet scampering on the roof. Not sure what kind of sound they make but we’ll keep our ears open for odd noises. Apparently, he picks up his reindeer later on his world tour. I wonder if he rides in the pouch of a ginormous kangaroo while going through the deserts of Aussie, or a camel through the Middle East, or a Panda through China, or an elephant through Africa. Makes ya think, eh?

The kids are now going for a nap before our Christmas Eve dinner we are having at our friends’ house. At least they were supposed to be napping; I was just interrupted by E who wanted to show me the slide he made from the top bunk to the floor at a crazy steep angle. I’ve locked him in now and he has gone to sleep. Kiwi style, we’ll be having a barbeque tonight and we were told to bring a plate, which we knew meant bring a dish for everyone to eat. We’ll be bringing chicken breast that is currently marinating in the fridge, and a plate of fruit.

Tomorrow Talie and I will be making the nuclear family a more traditional roast (chicken) with veggies. I’m looking forward to this meal, though it won’t quite be the same without extended family around.

The unpacking is going well…though the house looks a bit like an earthquake hit recently. We have been removing stuff from boxes because we are excited to see our material possessions but have not found places to put it all. We have lots of junk! E was hyped about getting his light saber, J her Molly Dolly and N his Sully (from Monsters Inc). We’ve been having Christmas for the past couple of weeks…maybe this is more like Hanukkah, instead of one day of the year it is eight craaazyy nights, to paraphrase Adam Sandler.

A Merry Christmas to us all; God bless us, every one!
